Welcome to my beekeeping journey here in the heart of Connemara, on the rugged and beautiful west coast of Ireland. My name is Josef Steiner and I’ve been passionately involved in beekeeping for the past 12 years. As a dedicated member of the Connemara Beekeeping Association, I’ve committed myself to the preservation and protection of the native Irish black bee (Apis mellifera mellifera), a resilient and hardy species perfectly adapted to our unique environment.

Over the years, I’ve carefully grown my stock and now proudly manage 25 thriving colonies. These colonies are thoughtfully placed in small apiaries, each with four colonies nestled in different wildland locations throughout the local area. This strategic placement not only provides my bees with diverse foraging opportunities but also supports the health and sustainability of the local ecosystem.

In addition to my commitment to bee conservation, I also produce and sell raw, natural honey, which has become a cherished product among our community. You can find my honey at the Naduir Center for Holistic Health in Seershin, Furbo, County Galway, where it has been a favorite of our clients for many years. I also offer my honey at a roadside kiosk, making it easily accessible for those who appreciate the pure, unprocessed taste of nature’s sweet gift.

I produce two distinct types of honey, each reflecting the rich biodiversity of Connemara’s landscape. The first is my Summer Blossom Honey, a light and floral variety harvested from the abundance of wildflowers that bloom during the warmer months. This honey captures the essence of summer in every jar, offering a delicate sweetness that’s perfect for any occasion.

My second offering is a specialty product that I’m particularly proud of: a medicinal Winter Wellness Honey. This unique blend combines late-season Ivy honey with homemade propolis tincture, resulting in a robust, immune-supporting honey designed to fortify your health during the colder months. Propolis, known for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, adds an extra layer of wellness benefits, making this honey a natural remedy for the winter season.

By expanding my colonies, I aim to keep the shelves stocked all year round, ensuring that you can enjoy the benefits of my honey whenever you need it. Each jar of honey is a testament to the hard work and dedication that goes into preserving our local bee populations and producing high-quality, natural products.
